As an actress and content creator, I’m exploring communication through the language of the soul. Nature and the metaphysical realm are important factors in my work. My purpose is to connect, dive deep and let it be expressed.
Ode to Snow

The Film
Ode to the Snow is a short film of a woman's longing for a proper winter in the land of Santa Claus. This film was inspired by the lousiest winter I have ever experienced. I am from Lapland and I moved to Southern Finland and was shocked how different the winter is only 700 km lower. Mostly it is dark, rainy and foggy for 6 months. It had a huge impact on my mood. At the same time in Lapland, there was snow on the ground and sun in the sky in the Spring, both bringing their light and beauty and enhancing each other. That really made me think about climate change. I wanted people to see the impact of climate change in a different way; not only on nature, but on people. Not the forest fires, but the snow disappearing, which is as alarming but not newsworthy. I waited months to get enough snow to shoot this film, but it never came. So I ended up shooting the film like this.
About Merja
Merja is a director and screenwriter who has directed over 20 short films and written most of them. She graduated as a screenwriter MA from Salford University and as a director MA from Kinoeyes European Movie Masters. Currently, she is writing her first feature film. Merja wrote and directed a radio play "Unknown Number" which was awarded as the Best National Radio Play of the Year 2023 in Finland. Her aim is to make the world a bit better with each of her films, especially for women.
